Catholic Schools Week 2015
We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week during January 25 – 31st! Here is our schedule of events:
Sunday, January 25: Mass – Students are asked to attend the 5:30pm Young and Catholic Mass at St. Joseph to start our week with prayer and thanksgiving for the great blessings that have come from attending a Catholic school. There will be a pizza party and fellowship following Mass.
Monday, January 26: A Day of Prayer - We will begin in the morning with a Novena prayer and then continue it at the beginning of each period throughout the day. Each classroom teacher will have copies of the prayer so the students will pray aloud at the beginning of each period. By the end of the day, we will have completed the Novena.
Tuesday, January 27: Student Appreciation Day – Faculty and Staff will provide milk, juice, fruit, and donuts at break as a way of expressing gratitude for our student body. No homework will be given this night and no tests or quizzes will follow on Wednesday.
Wednesday, January 28: The Huntington Invitational – This is also the opening day for The Huntington Invitational basketball tournament that will run through Saturday, January 31st at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Students are allowed to wear non-uniform shirts (with uniform pants) for Spirit Day and there will be a pep assembly at 2:30pm.
Thursday, January 29: A Living Rosary – We will construct a rosary from helium balloons and raffia. All students will come to the gym at 2:30pm and hold part of the rosary and offer their own intentions of why our Catholic School is important to them and why we are a community of faith, knowledge and service here at St. Joe, then we pray the entire rosary. If the weather is nice we can do this out on 13th Street in front of the school. Once we have prayed the rosary we will release it skyward.
Friday, January 30: Teacher Appreciation Day – Students have the opportunity to write a “thank you” to any of the faculty or staff that has made a positive influence on their time here at St. Joe. Each teacher will have a bag hanging on the outside of their door where the students can put the thank you cards.
