Ms. Naylor-Smith is a graduate of Marshall University, where she earned a BA in English in 2011, an MA in English in 2013, and an MAT in 2018. As an undergraduate, Ms. Naylor-Smith tutored at the Writing Center and worked as the nonfiction editor of Marshall’s literary magazine, Et Cetera. During graduate school, she served as a teaching assistant in the English Department, the Blake Scholar of Confederate Literature, and editor-in-chief of Et Cetera. Following graduation, Ms. Naylor-Smith moved to Colorado, where she taught dual-enrollment English courses for two years at an early colleges charter high school. She loved teaching high school students so much that after returning to West Virginia, she enrolled in the MAT program and earned certification in English 5-Adult.
Ms. Naylor-Smith lives in Hurricane with her daughter, Jana. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family—preferably outdoors. She loves swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, and trail running. Her literary obsessions include fairy tales (especially the very old ones), folklore, and Harry Potter. She is also an adjunct English instructor at Marshall and the advisor for Key Club.
