Mrs. McCarty has been teaching at our school since the fall of 1999. She has a B.S. in Earth Science/Geology (1981) from Penn State and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marshall University (1995). Before teaching here, she worked for 17 years as a geologist in the Appalachian coal fields. Mrs. McCarty was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and attended Catholic schools through the 8th grade. She moved to West Virginia after graduating from Penn State to work at Ashland Coal where she met her husband, Roger. They were married in 1985 and have two sons that both graduated from St. Joseph Central Catholic High School (Nick 2007; Ben 2010). Mrs. McCarty has always been a big football fan of the Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She has learned to enjoy basketball, cheering on the University of Kentucky with Roger. She also enjoys hiking, reading, solving puzzles and spending time with her family. She is the advisor for National Honor Society.
