  • The junior honor society club is open to all 9th graders who were inducted into the National Junior Society in their middle school, as well as sophomores who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of their freshman year at St. Joe.  The club will meet about once per month at lunch in Mrs. McCarty’s room, and will organize service projects that they can do for our school or community.  Officers will be elected at the beginning of each school year.

Mu Alpha Theta es una Sociedad de Honor Nacional de Matemáticas de Secundaria y Bachillerato. A partir de junio de 2014, Mu Alpha Theta tenía 105.000 estudiantes miembros en más de 2.100 escuelas en todo el país. Con el fin de participar en el capítulo de San José de Mu Alpha Theta, los estudiantes deben mantener un promedio general de 3,0, un promedio de matemáticas de 3,5, y han completado Álgebra II. El objetivo de Mu Alpha Theta es inculcar un gran interés en las matemáticas en los estudiantes y promover el disfrute de las matemáticas. El capítulo de St. Joseph de Mu Alpha Theta se esfuerza por mantener estos estándares en nuestra escuela y comunidad.

En abril de 2025, los miembros de Mu Alpha Theta organizaron una colecta de donativos para el Branches Domestic Violence Shelter.

Procedimiento de selección de miembros

The National Honor Society is an organization whose purpose is to “create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.”  (NHS Handbook, 18th ed., 2015)  To this end, the St. Joseph Central Catholic High School chapter of the NHS inducts students each fall into membership in our chapter.

Students will be considered eligible candidates for induction in their junior or senior year if they have been a St. Joe student for at least one year, and have a 3.50 cumulative GPA for all of their high school career.  Additionally, students who were previously inducted into the NHS at another school will be automatically accepted into the St. Joe chapter upon presentation of evidence of induction into their former school’s chapter.

En septiembre de cada año académico, se pedirá a los estudiantes que cumplan estos criterios que rellenen un Formulario de Solicitud de Candidatura para proporcionar información sobre su participación y liderazgo en actividades de servicio, clubes escolares, equipos deportivos y cualquier actividad extracurricular que pueda demostrar sus cualidades de erudición, carácter, liderazgo y servicio a los demás.

In addition to the Candidate Information Form, teachers at St. Joe will be asked to complete Faculty Input Forms regarding these students’ qualifications.  Teacher comments may include examples of behaviors or events that stand out as reasons the student should be considered for induction, as well as any reasons that they should not.  Teachers should consider the student’s completion of service hours, disciplinary events, and violations of the school’s honor policy, as well as anecdotal evidence of the student’s character.

A committee of 5 teachers, excluding the NHS sponsor and administrative staff, and approved by the principal each year, will then review the candidate and faculty forms, and will vote on each student’s acceptance into the St. Joe Chapter of the NHS.  Any student receiving three or more votes will be invited to become members of our chapter.

Letters will then be sent out to all candidates and their parents informing them of the committee decisions.  Those who have been selected will be notified of the date and time of our induction ceremony, with an invitation to parents to attend.  Students who do not receive enough votes will also be notified, in writing, with a brief explanation of the areas in which the student failed to meet the criteria.  The induction ceremony will take place in the fall of each school year.

Members meet approximately once a month in Mrs. McCarty’s room at lunch. Members will participate in a variety of service projects for the school and community.

El capítulo de nuestra escuela de la Sociedad Nacional de Honor de Ciencias se estableció en 2020 con el objetivo de crear una sociedad de honor para los estudiantes que sobresalen académicamente y tienen un interés significativo en la ciencia.

¡Bienvenido al Club de Español!

El capítulo de San José de la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) comenzó en el año escolar 2017-2018.

¿Qué es la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica?

La SHH es una sociedad de honor para estudiantes de secundaria matriculados en español y/o portugués, patrocinada por la Asociación Americana de Profesores de Español y Portugués (AATSP).

La SHH se organizó formalmente como Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica en 1953. El nombre cambió a Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica en 1959. En la actualidad hay más de 2.500 secciones nacionales e internacionales de la SHH.

La misión de la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica es reconocer los logros escolares en español y portugués y promover el interés por los estudios hispánicos y luso-brasileños.

¿Quién puede formar parte del SHH?

  • Cualquier estudiante de segundo, tercer o cuarto año que:
    • Tener un mínimo de 90% de media acumulada no ponderada y haber completado los niveles I y II de español.
    • Estar matriculado en Español III o por encima del nivel de español.
    • Tiene un buen expediente académico libre de Suspensiones Fuera de la Escuela o Deshonestidad Académica.

¿Qué ventajas tiene formar parte del SHH?

  • Este es un reconocimiento oficial que los Seniors pueden incluir en sus solicitudes universitarias y deben llevar cordones de honores durante la graduación.
  • Posibilidad de optar a becas y premios nacionales.

¿Cómo puede solicitarlo?

Se añadirá un enlace a la aplicación la primera semana de clase.

Hispanic Food Festival 2025

La National English Honor Society (NEHS), fundada y patrocinada por Sigma Tau Deltaes la única organización internacional dedicada exclusivamente a estudiantes y profesores de secundaria que, en el campo del inglés, merecen especial atención por sus logros pasados y presentes. Se invita a los centros de enseñanza secundaria a que soliciten la creación de una sección local, a través de la cual las personas puedan ser admitidas como miembros de la Sociedad. Los beneficios inmediatos de la afiliación incluyen reconocimiento académico, becas y premios, y oportunidades para establecer contactos con otras personas que comparten el entusiasmo y los logros en las artes lingüísticas. 

"Gelast Sceal Mid Are"

El lema del NEHS, "gelast sceal mid are", significa en inglés antiguo: "el deber va con el honor". El lema representa una de las primeras formas de nuestra lengua: afirma y celebra la obligación de utilizar los dones de cada uno al servicio de los demás. El servicio a los compañeros, a la escuela y a la comunidad es parte integrante de la misión del NEHS y, de hecho, en la estructura gramatical de la frase en inglés antiguo, "deber" precede en realidad a "honor".
