Dear Fighting Irish Soccer Fans and Alums,
The 2016 women’s soccer season is quickly approaching and we are excited about the direction the program is moving in. We are coming off of our first winning season in 4 years, placed 4 players on the all-state team (Kadin Gould, Rebecca Lee, Jamila McMurry, and McKenzie Moran), placed the only freshman field player on any first team all-state team regardless of class or gender (McKenzie Moran), and had two players sign-on to play collegiate soccer (Kadin Gould – Bethany College and Rebecca Lee – Bethany College).
The departing seniors laid the foundation for us to launch forward. This season, we will likely have the most talent ever assembled on a St. Joe women’s soccer team. Great talent, though, doesn’t always equate to a great team. In order for us to be a great team we’ll need to work together, make each other better, and play as one. And we will because we have three seniors (Lindsay Bates, Maddie Hill, and Emily Yablonsky) leading this year’s team who represent the school in the best possible way on and off the field. In true St. Joe fashion, they are small in number, but they are big in heart. Along with the returning players, they’ll be terrific leaders to a large and talented incoming freshman class.
We have identified significant needs as we strive to become the best soccer program in the state. We aim to raise $3,000 for a camera rig, portable PA system and general team supplies. Currently, we are able to record only at field level which severely limits our viewing perspective. The camera rig, however, records at 25 feet which captures the entire field. This recording angle will allow: 1) coaches to hold film sessions with the players, 2) parents, alumni, and fans to watch recorded games online, and 3) players to cut recruiting videos for college coaches. The PA system would constitute a major sound upgrade for Homecoming and in-game activities (e.g. announce starting lineups, substitutions, Homecoming court, etc.). Both the camera rig and PA system would be made available for the men’s soccer team and all other St. Joe sports as well.
As an athletic program that operates essentially on a break-even budget, these items are not possible without the generosity of supporters. We ask you to consider a donation to our cause and your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference to our program. If you donate $30 or more, we will mail you a St. Joe soccer scarf as a token of our appreciation ($25 if you’d like to pick it up at the school). You can purchase additional scarves for $25 each ($30 each if you would like them mailed).
